The First Born

  • Title: The First Born
  • State/Province/Region: Ohio
  • Country: United States
  • Nearest Area: Hocking Hills Region
  • Nearest Town: Logan OH
  • Brief Directions: From Columbus OH, take 33 east off the by pass and continue east until coming to the first Logan exit.
  • Notes: Used a Tamron 200x400 lens on the maximum setting and the internal (digital) tele converter the camera supplied. The only way to use the internal converter is to shoot in jpeg which I rarely do.
  • Description: This First time mother has just come into the nest with what looked like a small rodent in her talons. I believe she is a first time mother because of her size compared to the other parent and because she has a dark section in the front of the white head on the neck as if she had not completely changed over. The nest is in a marsh and well protected.
  • Gear: Sony A350 w/200x400 Tamron Lens and Flashpoint tri pod

Very colorful capture David! I agree, it's a great place to visit/photograph. It's a shame that the "middle bridge" gave way. Would have been neat to work with the entire area. Still a fabulous...
