Photo Details

  • Title: Icy Falls
  • State/Province/Region: Alaska
  • Country: United States
  • Nearest Area: SE Alaska
  • Nearest Town: Juneau
  • Description: Tracy Arm should be on everybody's bucket list. John Muir briefly explored this area in the late 1800's and was in awe. He considered this area a Yosemite in the making. This area is full of compositions and animals to look for. Bears, mountain goats and a wide variety of marine mammals.
  • Brief Directions: The cruise ship industry goes in here and there are day boats out of Juneau or if you are lucky like me and just take your own boat down there. Its about a 1.5 hour run in a boat from Juneau.
  • Notes: Put this trip on your list. It is incredible what glaciers can do with a little rock and some time. This place shoots well in sunny weather as well as cloudy weather. Overcast days really make the blues of the glacier ice stand out.
  • Best Season: Summer
  • Gear: Canon 1DsMkII 24-105L f:4.0
