Deer Creek Narrows, Grand Canyon

  • Title: Deer Creek Narrows, Grand Canyon
  • State/Province/Region: Arizona
  • Country: United States
  • Nearest Area: Grand Canyon National Park
  • Nearest Town: Jacob Lake
  • Brief Directions: Take the Bill Hall trail west of Jacob Lake, Arizona, on the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. The strenuous hike to reach the Deer Creek campsite is approximately 12 miles through extremly steep, rocky terrain. It is not for the faint of heart! Summer temeratures reach 110 degrees, and there is no dependable water source for much of the year until you reach Deer Creek. Unprepared hikers have died in the area.
  • Best Season: Spring
  • Description: Deer Creek, within Grand Canyon National Park, flows through a narrow slot canyon just before it drops more than 100 feet into the Colorado River. While a popular stop for passing river trips, you can have the area all to yourself in the early morning or late afternoon by backpacking to the area. This photo is one of several images I created of the falls and the slot canyon.

Thank you very much, Alena! Before planning your visit, do make sure to check park hours, as this area is not open to the public year-round.

Lovely composition of greenery and water motion, Alena. I especially like the textured waterfall curtain effect you have captured.
