Toroweep Point

  • Title: Toroweep Point
  • State/Province/Region: Arizona
  • Country: United States
  • Nearest Town: Fredonia
  • Brief Directions: From Fredonia drive West on route 389. After 9 miles turn South on a well-traveled dirt road that goes 58 miles to Toroweep. The last few miles after Tuweep Ranger Station (no phone, no services) are rough but can be done in a 2 wheel drive sedan although a SUV with its higher ground clearance is preferred. Take enough water and at least one good spare tire. It'll take about 2 to 2.5 hrs one way. There are no services so be prepared!
  • Best Season: Spring
  • Description: Toroweep Point offers a breathtaking view of Lava Falls deep down in the Grand Canyon. The dark color in the rocks represent an old lava flow that once blocked the Colorado river in the Grand Canyon. Over time the Colorado eroded and burst through the lava plug the remains of which form Lava Falls.

Thanks Laura! It's up in the area you also enjoy visiting/photographing, there in the Eastern Sierras! I can't wait for a few more weeks to go start chasing the Fall colors! I look forward to...
