The Earth Will Consume

  • Title: The Earth Will Consume
  • State/Province/Region: Washington D.C.
  • Country: United States
  • Nearest Area: Georgetown
  • Best Season: Spring
  • Description: A few years ago I heard a program on NPR about what would happen to the earth if humans were to suddenly disappear. Having lived in Washington, DC for the past five years, I was most intrigued by what would happen to our cities. It didn't surprise me when the guest commented on the fact that nature would quickly take over, and consume what man has left behind. That's what I set out to showcase one morning this past spring. There is so much that we already discard and leave behind it's hard to imagine traces of man ever disappearing. Then I found this bike I found wedged in a tree a few feet off the ground. The tree had started to form around the bike, giving it the appearance that it was swallowing the bicycle whole. It might take a long time, but it's fun to imagine the tree slowly digesting the bike until exists no more.

Beautiful motion! I can smell the mist and feel the ocean wind through my hair.

This is much better than those crazy, flaming sunrises.
