Siesta Key Sunset

  • Title: Siesta Key Sunset
  • State/Province/Region: Florida
  • Country: United States
  • Nearest Area: Tampa
  • Nearest Town: Sarasota
  • Brief Directions: From I-75, head south from Tampa to exit 205, which is SR 70. Turn right, staying on Clark Road heading west. It will change into Stickney Point Road, which you would follow over Rt. 41 and across the bridge. Bear right on Siesta Key,heading north and around the curve on Beach Rd. to the beach.
  • Notes: I have used a Nikon D-70 with a Nikon 18-200 lens often at the beach. A telephoto of this range works well both for scenics, close ups of sunsets and zooming on birds. Polarizers also work well at the beach, eliminating glare and enriching colors.
  • Best Season: Winter
  • Description: Siesta Key Beach in Sarasota, FL. Siesta Key Beach was recently named the number one beach in the nation by Dr. Stephen Leatherman, also known as Dr. Beach. A sailboat cruising into the sunset is a common sight at Siesta Key. The beach is also known for it's powdery white sand, which stays cool even on the hottest day. The Florida weather in the winter months makes it comfortable and a great time for photography. January is a prime season for the Royal Terns, which gather on the beach in large numbers and are beautiful in flight. Sandpipers, Sanderlings, Dowitchers and Snowy Egrets frequent the beach. Early morning light is an excellent time to catch the brown pelicans diving for food. In the winter months, the skies show more crisp and vivid colors.
