Bash Bish Falls

  • Title: Bash Bish Falls
  • State/Province/Region: Massachusetts
  • Country: United States
  • Nearest Area: MA Rte. 23
  • Nearest Town: Great Barrington
  • Brief Directions: Go about two hours east from Boston on the MassPke (I-90) to Exit 2. Take MA Rte. 102 west to Rte. 7 then south to Rte. 23. Detailed directions at http://www.mass.gov/dcr/parks/western/bash.htm
  • Notes: Bash Bish Falls is located in the southern Berkshires of Western Massachusetts. The falls are one of the little known scenic gems in New England. This secluded waterfall is about a quarter mile hike from the designated parking area. The surrounding area, and the hike all offer additional photographic opportunities. One of the best times for photographing the falls is mid May when the new spring growth is vibrant green. The falls are also distinctive in early to mid October with the colorful red and yellow autumn folliage. The falls face NW so lighting is best in afternoon, but look for an overcast day to allow detail in the image highlights. This shot of the falls was taken with a Nikon D70 using a Nikkor 18-200 zoom, open wide at 20mm. To capture the silky water look, the shot was taken at 1/4 sec at f22 using a polarizer filter.
  • Best Season: Spring
  • Gear: Comfortable hiking boots, tripod

Thank you for the compliment on my work Jean. The ocean is a most wonderful place to photograph; with both the power and beauty it displays.
