  • Best Season: Spring
  • Description: This eclipse was my first attempt to capture such an event. My planning began literally the Wednesday before the eclipse and by Saturday I had built my homemade solar filter, retrofitted a pair of safety goggles with welder's glass and headed from Sultan, Washington to northern California. When I arrived at Weed, California I had to make a decision which direction I'd head for the eclipse on the next day. Weather locally was already overcast to I headed east to Susanville, CA, got a room and found an excellent mountain top to shoot from the next day. Come morning the local weather for Susanville was indicating 50% cloud cover by eclipse time. The next best location was the Reno area, so I headed east early in the morning, then made a final decision to head to Pyramid Lake. Upon arrival at the southeast shoreline I found a gentleman who had some very sophisticated telescopes and technical gear so I setup along side him and prepared for the eclipse. I can hardly wait for August, 21, 2017 to do a total eclipse and this time with much more planning and slightly different gear.

Very nice set of "Arches" Stephen. Wasn't sure, but thought someone said one of the famous landmarks fell? Really enjoyed the "Double Windows" when there!
