Fort Selden State Monument

  • Title: Fort Selden State Monument
  • State/Province/Region: New Mexico
  • Country: United States
  • Nearest Area: State Hwy. 185 or I25
  • Nearest Town: Las Cruces
  • Brief Directions: Leave Las Cruces going N on 185; drive approx. 35 miles to the monument.
  • Notes: Fort Selden is seldom visited and provides an outstanding opportunity to view crumbling adobe walls against a backdrop of Rio Grande badlands. Not much happened here when the post was manned (1865-89); its chief claim to fame is that Douglas MacArthur lived here in his youth while his father was post commander. For the contemporary photographer, the great textures and rich colors outweigh any historical interest (or lack of it).
  • Best Season: Spring
  • Gear: Sunscreen; polarizing filter

Thank you for the compliment on my work Jean. The ocean is a most wonderful place to photograph; with both the power and beauty it displays.
