Highlands Sunrise - Whitesides Mountain Landscape

  • Title: Highlands Sunrise - Whitesides Mountain Landscape
  • State/Province/Region: North Carolina
  • Country: United States
  • Nearest Area: Blue Ridge Mountains
  • Nearest Town: Highlands, NC
  • Brief Directions: East on Hwy. 64 from downtown Highlands, NC
  • Best Season: Spring
  • Description: Highlands, NC is one of my favorite places to visit and landscapes like this are one of the reasons why. "Rhodes Big View" area offers a great view of Whitesides Mountain and the valley below at any given time, but it is especially striking at sunrise. The dynamic sky over the fog filled valleys in the golden light of early morning really made this scene special in my opinion.

Very nice set of "Arches" Stephen. Wasn't sure, but thought someone said one of the famous landmarks fell? Really enjoyed the "Double Windows" when there!

That moose is a "spike" i.e. a very young juvenile, probably on his first year away from mom. His antler's will fill out further in the next few years.

Very interesting post Donna and Mike on Moose/Antlers. Not sure what may have caused the change in antlers, but pretty sure the one will end up looking like one of these in a few years.
