Setting Moon Over Sea Stacks

  • Title: Setting Moon Over Sea Stacks
  • State/Province/Region: Oregon
  • Country: United States
  • Nearest Area: Oregon Coast
  • Nearest Town: Bandon
  • Brief Directions: Bandon is on the southern Oregon Coast.
  • Notes: This is the "blue light" hour, twilight transitioning from night to dawn. The moon provided enough light, along with the light from the sun that was just rising at my back, to illuminate the offshore sea stacks quite a bit. You can see the sea gull rookery on the sea stacks off shore. Those tiny white dots are gulls and other shore birds just waiting for dawn light. You're going to have long exposures, so bring a tripod. You'll need to expose separately for moon and the rest of your image, in this case.
  • Best Season: Spring
  • Description: I stumbled on this scene. I intended to get up before dawn and drive to the Oregon dunes to take pictures there at dawn. But when I stepped outside my motel room, I caught sight of this big fat moon setting over the Pacific. I grabbed my camera bag and tripod and ran down tot he beach. Bandon has the most photogenic sea stack formations on its shoreline than any other part of the Oregon Coast, in my opinion.

Thank you Stephen Faulkner! Indeed, I was 'chuffed,' although I confess I had to Google the meaning of the word (!)
