The Painted Hills At Dawn

  • Title: The Painted Hills At Dawn
  • State/Province/Region: Oregon
  • Country: United States
  • Nearest Area: John day Fossil Beds national Monument
  • Nearest Town: Mitchell
  • Brief Directions: From Prineville head east toward the Idaho border and the town of Mitchell in Eastern Oregon. The painted Hills is part of the John day Fossil Bend National Monument.
  • Best Season: Spring
  • Description: Wildflowers arrive in May, especially Golden Bees, painting the already colorful Painted Hills with bright yellow swatches. The Painted Hills were formed as a result of the buildup of ash from volcanic explosions in Eastern and Central Oregon over eons. The different colors banded in the smoothly molded hills represent different climatic changes over many millenia.

Was just in the area of Valley Park, Fenton, and Hillsboro Missiouri in November before the storm. Got to love the trees, and your image tells the story perfectly...
