  • Title: East Rim, Steens Mountain
  • State/Province/Region: Oregon
  • Country: United States
  • Nearest Area: Route 205 South
  • Nearest Town: Frenchglen
  • Brief Directions: From 205 and Frenchglen make a left to the North Loop of Steens Mountain. Continue for 25 miles up the mountain on a rocky gravel road with many ruts to the East Rim. A short but rocky walk from the parking area will bring you to the east rim.
  • Notes: To get the best views you need to leave about 5:30 am since it will take about 75 minutes to reach this area. Along the way you will have to be careful to avoid hitting deer and antelope. Views are best at dawn and sunrise.
  • Best Season: Autumn
  • Gear: Good hiking shoes; very warm clothing and gloves; tripod.
