  • Title: Misery Bay
  • State/Province/Region: Pennsylvania
  • Country: United States
  • Nearest Area: Presque Isle State Park loop roadway

  • Brief Directions: Follow the park loop, bearing to the right where the road diverges. This picture was taken just past the bridge near the Perry Monument at dawn.
  • Notes: The road runs near the shore of this bay on the south side of Presque Isle State Park. It was named Misery Bay by the sailors who spent a miserable winter here during the War of 1812. Commodore Perry's fleet was built at Erie and defeated the British Fleet in the Battle of Lake Erie, where he flew the flag reading "Don't give up the Ship". Best times are at dawn and sunset.
