Great Smoky Mountains National Park Roaring Fork Spring Cascade

  • Title: Great Smoky Mountains National Park Roaring Fork Spring Cascade
  • State/Province/Region: Tennessee
  • Country: United States
  • Nearest Area: Great Smoky Mountain National Park
  • Nearest Town: Gatlinburg
  • Best Season: Spring
  • Description: Roaring Fork is a vibrant stream originating on the northern slopes of Mount Le Conte. Dropping some 2500 feet in roughly three miles, the stream eventually empties into the west fork of the Little Pigeon River. The Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail is a six-mile one-way loop road that allows visitors intimate access to some beautiful waterfalls and cascades in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Southern Applachian mountains. During the spring the new green foliage can seem to almost glow above the active stream and wildflowers. The Great Smoky Mountain National Park is formed of some of the oldest mountains in the world and is known for its biological diversity. With elevations ranging from 875 feet to 6,643 feet, GSMNP is the largest federally protected upland landmass east of the Mississippi River. The area receives between 55-85 inches of rainfall, which makes it wetter than anywhere in the country other than the Pacific Northwest. In addition, the 100+ species of native trees found in the GSMNP are more than any other park in North America. The United Nations has declared this park an International Biosphere Reserve.

Thanks Laura!! I walked into this little slot canyon till it was completely dark and thought I'd sort of found nothing much…then turned around and saw THIS. I was gem for sure.

Wow, just beautiful! The light is perfect and I love the curve of the tree and the lines of the canyon wall.
