  • Title: Windswept Hiker
  • State/Province/Region: Tennessee
  • Country: United States
  • Nearest Area: Charokee
  • Nearest Town: Gatlinburg
  • Brief Directions: Newfound Gap (el. 5048 ft./1539 m.) is a mountain pass located near the center of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park of the southern Appalachian Mountains in the United States of America. Situated along the border of Tennessee and North Carolina, the state line crosses the gap, as does U.S. Highway 441 (also known as Newfound Gap Road), on its way over the mountains between Gatlinburg, Tennessee and Cherokee, North Carolina. The Appalachian Trail also traverses the gap, as do a small number of other hiking trails. (per wikipedia) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newfound_Gap
  • Best Season: Winter
  • Description: My family and I were sight seeing one after noon to Newfound Gap, when you arrive on top your standing on the TN. NC. border. Its a spectacular view however this day there was a snow storm coming in and the wind was blowing. I caught this hiker going back down after he had made it to the top.

Very nice set of "Arches" Stephen. Wasn't sure, but thought someone said one of the famous landmarks fell? Really enjoyed the "Double Windows" when there!

That moose is a "spike" i.e. a very young juvenile, probably on his first year away from mom. His antler's will fill out further in the next few years.

Very interesting post Donna and Mike on Moose/Antlers. Not sure what may have caused the change in antlers, but pretty sure the one will end up looking like one of these in a few years.
