- Description: Ambient Arch
This picture was taken in moon light. I studied the alignment of the moon, stars and planets and decided this night would work. I wanted enough ambient light from the moon to see the snow capped La Sal mountains in the background. At the same time, I didn't want to over expose the rest of the picture. The moon's phase was a waning crescent with less than a quarter of it reflecting light. I hiked up to the Arch around 1:00 am. On the hike up I realized how bright Saturn was. I knew Saturn was going to be bright but I didn't anticipate this. I've never seen a planet so luminous. If you look close you'll see a shadow from Saturn's rings. I didn't add it or alter it.
