The Narrows At Zion National Park

  • Title: The Narrows At Zion National Park
  • State/Province/Region: Utah
  • Country: United States
  • Nearest Area: Utah HWY 9
  • Nearest Town: Springdale Utah
  • Brief Directions: From the east gate of Zion National Park drive 2.4 miles and turn at the junction of the North Fork Road and SR-9. Drive up the North Fork Road (past the Ponderosa Ranch at 5.2 miles) At 5.4 miles the road will turn to dirt. At 11.5 miles the road crosses over the North Fork of the Virgin River. There is a sign at the turn for the Zion Narrows. At this intersection turn left and follow the dirt road, ignoring side roads, to the signed parking area. Total mileage to the parking area is 12.5 miles. To get to the Temple of Sinawava trailhead just drive to the very end of the Zion Canyon Rd and park at the parking lot.
  • Notes: The Zion Narrows are well known for one of the most dynamic and beautiful hikes in the Southwest. This slot canyon has colorful sandstone walls rising to over 2000+ feet with the amazing waters of the Virgin River. I always explore the Narrows in the dead of winter to beat the crowds and enjoy the isolation to soak up the amazing atmosphere. You must wear a wetsuit to hike the Narrows in the winter and have the proper equipment. If you do not have the right gear you can rent the equipment from a choice of outfitters in Springdale. In the summer month you can go without a wetsuit but the area can be very crowded. Be sure to bring a tripod and polarizer filter because your exposures can be very long even during mid-day.
  • Best Season: Winter
  • Gear: Dry Bag or waterproof backpack, water shoes with neoprene socks,

Very nice set of "Arches" Stephen. Wasn't sure, but thought someone said one of the famous landmarks fell? Really enjoyed the "Double Windows" when there!

That moose is a "spike" i.e. a very young juvenile, probably on his first year away from mom. His antler's will fill out further in the next few years.

Very interesting post Donna and Mike on Moose/Antlers. Not sure what may have caused the change in antlers, but pretty sure the one will end up looking like one of these in a few years.
