  • Brief Directions: Route 7 west from Washington D.C through Loudoun County (45 minutes) 2 miles past Bluemont, Virginia to a left on Blueridge Mountain Road, take the Appalachian Trail on foot to the location.
  • Best Season: Autumn
  • Description: This image was captured at "Bear's Den" an outcropping of rocks west of Bluemont Virginia. The site is believed to be a Native American solstice site dating back 12,000 years, the rocks were a key point during the Civil War & popular tourist destination in the 1800's and Early 1900's. The outcropping is part of the Appalachian Trail and holds a special place in the hearts of those who grew up on them as I did. This image captured on the Autumnal Equinox of 2012. Won Curator's Choice in Mountains Photography Contest on November, 2012
