Great Horned Owl

  • Title: Great Horned Owl
  • State/Province/Region: Washington
  • Country: United States
  • Nearest Area: South of Spokane, Washington
  • Nearest Town: Spangle
  • Brief Directions: South of Spokane on old Colfax highway to Spangle, Washington. About a 20 minute drive south from I-90 in Spokane.
  • Notes: In order to get the attention of the owl I tried to make the sound of a mouse or a squeeking sound with my lips . . . the owl responded by opening its large eyes. I was able to get this shot with my 250mm before he discovered I was not a mouse, and closed his eyes again.
  • Best Season: Summer
  • Description: This Great Horned Owl was sleeping in a tree in the local cemetery. I was interested in shooting the tree because of its two trunks that merged out of one. As I looked up (about 20 feet) there on a branch sat this beautiful owl. I never did get my picture of the tree.
