Lone Star Geyser

  • Title: Lone Star Geyser
  • State/Province/Region: Wyoming
  • Country: United States
  • Nearest Area: Upper Geyser Basin
  • Nearest Town: Yellowstone National Park
  • Brief Directions: The trailhead for this multi-purpose path is located south of the Kepler Cascades parking area on the Grand Loop Road in Yellowstone National Park.
  • Notes: The geyser is not named for any connection to the state of Texas, but because it sits by itself in the backcountry. It is four air miles from another tall geyser, Old Faithful.
  • GPS Longitude: -110.8071556
  • GPS Latitude: 44.4179892
  • Best Season: Autumn
  • Description: An easy hike, walk or bike ride to a backcountry geyser south of Upper Geyser Basin. The 2.5 mile trail is mostly flat, partially paved, and follows the Firehole River through a beautifully unburned pine forest. In fall, the number of insects is down and the changing colors make this a terrific hike. The geyser erupts, on average, every three hours and observers maintain a log with the time and duration of previous eruptions. Bring bear spray if you plan to continue on the trail past the geyser as this is a bear frequenting area.
  • Gear: Sturdy shoes or boots or bicycle; jacket or rain gear as necessary; hat; sunscreen; insect repellant, camera

Thanks Paul and Lorenzo! This is one of those scenes that a camera will never do justice to-there was nothing like being there.
