Description

Early Fall brings a prodigious bloom of southern cattails (Typha domingensis) in the freshwater marshes of the San Elijo Lagoon in Encinitas, California.

In this photograph a single cattail stalk, with its brown flowers, was isolated from the colony of plants to create a bokeh effect in a majority of the frame. The Zeiss APO Sonnar lens, with its top-notch sharpness, color accuracy and subtle rendering of out of focus areas, is an excellent choice for producing this effect.
