Description

In 2014, I planned a trip to Maui specifically around the new moon, in order to try to capture the Milky Way over the Haleakala Observatory. At around midnight, with 30 degree temps and howling winds, the stars aligned perfectly over the observatory for the composition I wanted. During my 20 second exposure, a car at the observatory turned their headlights on, and the orange light added the perfect additional element to my shot! This shot remains one of my personal favorites, not only because I got the shot I went out for, but for the memory of that dark, windy night spent gazing up at a million stars.
