Just north of Big Pine, take highway 168 east about 2 miles. Turn left on Leighton Lane and go about 4 miles and through the gate. After a sharp left turn go about 100 yards and turn right on Robbie Road.

Notes

Tours are given year-round at OVRO on the first Monday of every month unless it is a holiday. If the first Monday is a holiday, then the tour is on the second Monday. All tours start at 1 p.m. and last about an hour. Reservations are not required and there is no cost.

Description

Cal Tech runs the Owens Valley Radio Observatory which studies astronomy and cosmology. The locals call these giant scientific instruments "The Big Ears" because they listen for life in distant galaxies far, far away from our own Milky Way.
