California's Bodie State Historic Park is in the Eastern Sierra region between Lake Tahoe and Mono Lake. It isn't usually open at night, but several times each year, with the proper permit, I can bring small groups of photographers in for an amazing experience!
Every time we go it's a little different as the Milky Way moves. On this night the Walker Fire in the Mono Basin was casting orange light on the smoke and clouds along the horizon. This historic Methodist Church was built in 1883. We did a little light painting on it with a flashlight as an eerie light floated through the scene... in the hands of another photographer.
Shooting on a dark night in an authentic Wild West "ghost town" can be a little spooky at times, but it's definitely a "bucket list worthy" experience!
