I stayed in a hotel in Tusayan (pack lots of money, it's one of the most expensive cities in the country) and after a day of exploring the canyon, went back to my hotel for dinner and a rest, then headed back out to the rim at night. There's several spots to stop at along the canyon, most of which are about equal at night when you can't see into the canyon at all.
Standing near the edge of the Grand Canyon at one of the southern viewpoints of the park at night. The darkness in the canyon was amazing, the cold wind coming up from the canyon not so much. In fact, it was sometimes strong enough to rattle my tripod while I was taking a picture. Thankfully in this photo the leaves may be moving, but the camera stayed still.
