Just fifteen minutes from where we live is Commonwealth Lake Park (in the City of Beaverton), which is an excellent birding area, especially in the late fall and winter. On one occasion I was walking around the lake (.8 mile perimeter) and found this Great Blue heron fishing in the narrows. Seemingly oblivious to my presence I was able to photograph him with my Nikon D 200 and Sigma Zoom Lens (150-500 mm.) at relatively close range. The ISO was 400, F/6.3, 1/1000th second exposure, and a Focal Length of 500 mm. I used a Manfrotto tripod and Head.
