This is the beautiful, iconic and mysterious Abiqua falls. Anyone who has ever been there probably knows what I'm talking about. It's kind of difficult to find and get to. There are no signs marking the "road" to the trail head or the trail itself. The road to the trail head is very steep and rocky. I have never actually driven all the way to the trail. On this morning I pulled off the road in a safe spot about halfway to the trail and stated walking. It was still dark and this area of Oregon is notorious for cougar activity. With my tripod as my only protection I began the approximately 1 mile journey to the trail head. The trail itself is also VERY steep and slippery. There are old, frayed ropes tied between trees to hold onto. I used them, as I have seen news reports of people falling down this trail and being seriously injured. When or if you finally reach the falls themselves you will not be disappointed! They are always spectacular! Especially in spring at peak flow. I have been to this location twice and all together spent about 4 hours there and I have never seen another person at the falls! That's the mysterious part!
