One of the most surreal landscapes in the US. Strange rock formations and arches with the eastern sierra mountains as a backdrop. It rained all night. The wind was fierce with gusts of 30 mph. The National Weather Service Advisory warned for “possible flying Christmas decoration” (it's true). It was forecasted that the storm would not break until after 11 am. But came dawn and I still ventured out for the sunrise, hopeful but with no expectations. The sky was completely covered and at times the wind was so violent that my parked car rocked like a cradle. I made some coffee and waited inside, patiently. And then it happened. A small opening in the clouds let in the light of the rising sun bringing with it this amazing scene. It only lasted for about 5 minutes. The best light of my entire trip.
