Head East from the Icefield Parkway onto highway 11 toward Nordegg. Preacher's Point, where this was taken, is the first parking area that appears when you reach the lake.
Abraham Lake is best known for the bubbles that are frozen into the ice when the water freezes in the winter. It also has some great ice for more abstract shots. I found this crack in the ice while heading back to my car after sunset and decided I needed to shoot it. I set up my 16-35 lens about a foot from the subject and took several images to make sure I could keep everything sharp. I wanted to be able to see the snow/crystals in great detail throughout the image as well as get the clarity and color of the blue ice.
