Description

My wife and I took an opportunity to explore Snow Canyon State Park while in southern Utah to visit Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks. On this day, Zion was quite busy with visitors over President's Day weekend so we decided to explore Saint George and Snow Canyon. The lighting was not the best as we were hiking in the middle part of the day. Toward the end of our hike I saw this juniper eking out an existence on the red rock adjacent to the trail. The light from the sun was just starting to be clipped by taller precipices over my shoulder. This juniper stood out from the surroundings and it provided a nice contrast of green to the red rock and surrounding dry brush. There are many junipers in the area but this one was prominent on this rock outcropping as it sat in a c-shaped depression.
