Otters are naturally curious. With patience, sometimes they will approach the photographer. For the first time in the past five years or so, Chignik Lake froze solid. The few holes that remained open became magnets for wildlife: ducks, seals, foxes and freshwater otters. Knowing that this is a rare event - and one that may never again occur, I go out on the ice every day, often crawling over the ice to approach wildlife.
