From Manali, take shared cab/ taxi (or even can hire one) directly to Barsheni base camp. The road from Malnali to Barsheni would take you through the Kasol village and Manikaran Sahib Gurudwara. It'll take hardly 3hrs from Manali to reach Barsheni. From Barsheni, one can start climbing Kheer Ganga.
Lower Himalayas offer a fantastic weather throughout the year, except winters when it's too harsh for a usual survival. I got myself to Kheer Ganga peak, last winter, and this photograph was taken from the home-stay balcony at the base camp. I was scheduled to leave early morning, but due to rain since last night, it got delayed by hours. However, I couldn't sleep tight after 3AM, as I was all set to capture the first light, but was hopeless due to the continuous rain. At a point of time I realized that the rain sound is no more, and I quickly pounced off my bed to open the door, only to realize, that Himalayas don't disappoints you. Immediately grabbed my camera, and started to find the best compositions around. The lights, fog and shadows changed continuously, until the light got much bright. By the time, I got what I wanted, and this is it. I had been there twice (same season), but never that I could make a "similar" photograph both the time. Said that, this photograph always reminds me of the sleepless night, the quilt and -18 degrees of temperature that night.
