Description

Mt. St. Helens stands only 8,366 feet high following the eruption in 1980 that blew off the top 1300 feet of the mountain and devastated 230 square miles of the area surrounding it. Today the barren mountain can be seen with crevices, cracks, and fissures leading out from the 2-mile wide caldera at the top, and is one of the most recognizable sites in the Pacific Northwest while it's also known for being the most destructive volcano in U.S. history.
