Brave sailors leaving Grand Marais harbor and heading into the fog along Minnesota's north shore of Lake Superior (Gichigami). Upon arrival at the harbor, I quickly grabbed my camera, knowing the intense fog would add drama to any scene along the shore. I barely had enough time to raise the camera and steady myself to capture the sailboat in front of the lighthouse before it disappeared into the cold, fog-covered lake.
Most who are familiar with Minnesota's north shore region will recognize the Grand Marais lighthouse from this shot. The fog rolling in from the lake adds a tremendous sense of place, although this shot could just as easily occur in any harbor town along the North American Great Lakes.
