Swimming Grizzly, Oxbow Bend
About 40 miles north of Jackson Wyoming
Canon EOS 5D Mark II, f/13, Canon EF70-300mm f/4-5.6L, 1/250 sec, 140.0 mm focal length, 320. Manual exposure mode. I likely jacked up the ISO so I could add a faster shutter than I would for a landscape shot, but still wanted to retain maximum depth of field. Many would have grabbed the telephoto and shot the grizzly for a close up. I prefer a landscape with a bear in it as those are harder to achieve. In Grand Teton Park we have plenty of bear portrait opportunities, we have far fewer bear landscape with a Grand Teton back drop
I was leading a photo tour and we were shooting the iconic Mount Moran reflection at Oxbow Bend in Grand Teton National Park when down came a grizzly bear from behind us. The grizzly bear continued to the river and disrupted our perfect reflection of the mountain. Our tripods and cameras were already for the reflection wrecker.
