Description

Our local lagoon (San Elijo Reserve in Encinitas, California) has been awash in wildflowers from the winter and spring rains. One of the more interesting varieties on display is the Cobwebby Thistle (Cirsium occidental). It's the only native thistle in the lagoon, and an important source of pollen and nectar for native bees and butterflies. The discs in the background of this photo are Yellow Pincushion flowers.
