the slave river in Northwest territories is the more northern nesting place for pelicans. Between Fort Smith and Fort Fitzgerald (hwy 5) several islands, surrounding by rapids are used every year by pelicans to nest. the river and the rapids are the keepers of their safety.
A solo pelican waits for the first light of the day on the Slave River. Despite its calm, it took me several shots to get this photo where the pelican stay nearly immobile and sharp.
