Description

In spring of 2017 I spotted a Monarch butterfly, also called a milkweed butterfly, checking out the milkweed that grows wild in my yard. Several days later we found this monarch caterpillar and several eggs on those same plants. For scale, this caterpillar is only one inch long, possibly between its third and fourth instar state. To frame this shot with the foreground green and blurring I stood on a stool brought outside from my house and shot downward through leaves. July 31, 2017
