To get the sparks flying out of the fire I exposed this image for four seconds at f/4, ISO 200 on a Canon EOS 40D with ultra-wide 10-22mm lens at 17 mm. I triggered the shot using the camera's internal self timer.
Second Beach in Olympic National Park is one of my favorite shooting locations. Knowing I'd light a fire on the beach for photos, I stopped by the grocery store in Forks, Washington and picked up hot dogs and buns on the way to the beach. It's hard to beat food cooked directly over coals. Next time I'll bring steaks & s'mores!
Unfortunately the weather and lighting conditions weren't all that dramatic when I visited, but that just means that I have to return soon! I can't complain though, at least it wasn't raining, despite being surrounded by temperate rain forest.
