The Virgin River Narrows is about a mile hike from the trailhead at the end of Zion's shuttle bus line, then you have to hike about another two miles up the canyon to reach this spot. I used Gore-Tex waders and felt-soled wading boots on this visit, but on a more recent visit I bought used canyoneering boots from one of the rental shops in town.
Shooting at ISO 100 and f/16 late in the day in this deep canyon, I had to stand still for four seconds in this 18 mm shot.
This is a self portrait in the Virgin River Narrows in Zion National Park: miles of slot canyon as little as 30 feet wide and up to 1400 feet deep. It was taken in September 2006, only days after I took my long term interest of photography and started pursuing it full time.
