The Merced River runs through Yosemite Valley in Yosemite National Park, on the western side of the Sierra Nevada in Central California.
The base exposure for this shot was 1/40th of a second at f/8, ISO 200, which I adjusted in Adobe Lightroom. I then sent that image with identical images shot one stop over an under that center one to Photomatix, to provide dynamic range and additional options for adjusting contrast & detail. The latest PhotomatixPro 6 adds the ability to overlay and blend one of the original images, providing fine control over realism, so an image won't say "HDR" louder than the subject or the composition it's presented in.
A "spooky" tree along the Merced River in early November. It might not be able to hang onto that bank more than another spring or two.
There were controlled burns in the Valley, as well as some campfires and morning ground fog, so the air often picked up a little sunlight, rendering a painting-like quality to many of the scenes.
