Don Sheldon pioneered flying Alaskans to glaciers beginning in 1932. We arranged for a grand tour of Denali plus a glacier landing through Sheldon Air Service in Talkeetna. Our flightseeing trip was in a De Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver Mk1. The only way Denali can be truly appreciated, is from the air. This is a popular climbing destination that reminds climbers of the Italian Alps. We were blessed with fresh snow from earlier in the week, but generally clear skies over the mountain, interrupted by a few clouds rising on updrafts as the sun rose in the sky. Small, fixed-wing aircraft have vibrations associated with the engine and propeller, and are easily jostled by wind gusts. The photographer must use his arms to form a gimble to counteract these and absorb the vibrations.
