The grandeur of iconic Mt. Rainier, rising high (14,400 ft) above low clouds, is on full display as seen from a commercial jet after departing from Seattle in 1975. An active volcano, Mount Rainier is the most glaciated peak in the contiguous USA, spawning six major rivers. This image made shortly after takeoff by walking to and shooting through a cabin door window to avoid inclusion of the wing in the image. New rules on commercial flights would prohibit capturing this photograph as movement within the cabin is not allowed before attaining cruising altitude.
