Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes are a short distance east of the town of Stovepipe Wells. It's about a mile hike on a map to reach the highest dune, but if feels a lot longer climbing and crossing ridges of sand the whole way.

The sun was close to dropping below the horizon. The dunes were selectively lit, and nicely sidelit as a hiker waited on top for sunrise. Sometimes a spot you've passed dozens of times suddenly gets really good, with just the right light!
