Fly to Launceston or take the ferry from Melbourne to Devonport, pick up a car and head for Moina. From there take the C132 to get to Cradle Mountain.
There is a relatively easy walk around Dove Lake which can be completed in a few hours. The track can become quite crowded in the height of the tourist season ie. summer. Alternatively, you can take a 4-day overland walk from Cradle Mountain through to Lake St Clair.
Cradle Mountain is the main drawcard in the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park. This park is in the 1.4 million hectare Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. Dove Lake lies to the north of Cradle Mountain and provides a unique foreground, often mirror-like, allowing evocative photos to be captured at any time of the day or year.
