Description

Bald eagles seem to have a knack of knowing when there will be a flash freeze and then a thaw. In ponds and lakes with fish, this causes the a fast demise of the fish but provides an abundance of food for the eagles, which snatch them out of the shallow water. To photograph the action, look for the ripple caused by the fish near the surface of the water. The eagle will see the same thing and drop its talons into the middle of the ripple.
