Assignment #356: Discovery Landscape Photography
In “The Approach To Better Landscape Photography,” Marc Muench explained that when he began his career he was, “regularly visiting locations that were totally unfamiliar to me. With no internet at that time, there was little documentation of existing work, and I was forced to innovate on the fly, to create images using compositional skills that were not influenced by other photographers or artists. This was a period of what I call ‘discovery’ landscape photography.”
Not all of us get to travel the world on assignment, but there are still so many unfamiliar locations to practice our landscape photography on. Show us your favorite images where you discovered a new location or scene that forced you to think on your feet when determining how to work with the composition, subject and light. Be sure to tell us about your experience in the description. Take two weeks for this one due to the holidays. Deadline to submit images is January 2.—Kristan Ashworth, Managing Editor
The winning images from our weekly assignments are featured on the OP Blog, as well as our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages.
