Description

Paynes Prairie is a 22,000 acre preserve, and I first visited in hopes of photographing wildlife, such as the very large Alligator mississippiensis that is allowed to grow unmolested, the wild horses, and the bison. Imagine my surprise when I walked a mile out and mounted an observation deck to see this view on a beautiful fall day. This was one of the best days of my life, and I think it sparked in me a desire to sometimes capture landscapes - the land, just like the animals, has a voice, and if we listen deeply, it calls to us to remember our origins, and our ties to all lifeforms. We are a manifestation of organic material, for the moment, and boy what a moment this was for me.
