While scouting the Elk River Valley near Steamboat Springs in Colorado for derelict buildings, a personal project, I noticed this small structure. Surveying the scene I noticed the similar shape in the rock formation on the mountain above. Initially the rocks were in the shadows cast by the clouds. Wind was moving the clouds and I tracked a break in the shadow until it illuminated the rocks. The shed was surrounded by shadow but the similarities in shape coupled with the contrast in textures and light with the outcropping on the hill were the conditions I wanted to capture. The windy conditions required a faster shutter speed to capture the foreground plants still.
